Statement on the NYISO’s 2025–2034 Comprehensive Reliability Plan (CRP) and third quarter Short-Term Assessment of Reliability (STAR)

Our statement from New York Building Congress President & CEO Carlo A. Scissura, Esq. on the release of the NYISO’s third quarter Short-Term Assessment of Reliability (STAR) and 2025-2034 Comprehensive Reliability Plan (CRP):
“The New York Independent System Operator’s 2025–2034 Comprehensive Reliability Plan (CRP) and third quarter Short-Term Assessment of Reliability (STAR) are a wake-up call for New York. We are facing a grid reliability crisis driven by aging infrastructure, rising demand, and the rate of new generation falling behind retirements. A quarter of our power supply is more than 50 years old, with some facilities approaching 70 years in age, and for every two megawatts of generation retired, only one megawatt is added. That math does not work for a growing, electrifying state.
Governor Hochul’s all-of-the-above energy strategy is the right approach, but it must be matched by urgent action. That means building, not delaying, critical projects such as the Northeast Supply Enhancement project, expanding transmission, adding storage, and modernizing our generation fleet. The grid cannot meet New York’s climate and economic goals without firm, dispatchable power and a strong, reliable delivery network.
The New York Building Congress and its members stand ready to build the infrastructure that keeps the lights on, the economy growing, and New York’s transition to clean energy on solid ground.”
