FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: November 3, 2023

“Today’s Gateway groundbreaking was so much fun, I think we should all do it again tomorrow — in Harlem, for Phase 2 of the Second Avenue Subway!” said Carlo A. Scissura, President and CEO of the NY Building Congress.

“This critical project exemplifies why America needed something as historic as the IIJA: Building infrastructure to bring mass transit to a historically underserved community. Providing an easier, faster, safer way to move millions of New Yorkers. Helping the 125th Street transit hub become ‘Grand Central North,’ and opening opportunities for growth to better connect Harlem to the rest of the city.

All of this is why I can’t wait to thank DOT Secretary Buttigieg, Gov. Hochul, Rep. Espaillat, MTA Chief Janno Lieber and many more, as we celebrate not just $3.4B in funding, but this movement forward that will soon have a profound impact on folks who have waited far too long for this day.

Now let’s start planning Phase 3!”
