FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: June 10, 2024

“We now have a window into the dire circumstances facing not just the MTA as an organization, but everyone who relies on our mass transit to get around in New York. As the capital program gets ‘carved up,’ as Janno Lieber just said, we also heard that the operations budget will be affected. That means slowdowns and breakdowns, and the riders of our region cannot and should not stand for another Summer of Hell.

As Janno also said, ‘Everybody agrees we cannot let go of the progress we’ve made.’ Everybody, it seems, but Gov. Hochul. We stand firm that the needs of our transit riders and investment in our future is critical – no one wants a return to the system of the 70s and 80s. Our industry stands ready to put shovels in the ground to build and expand our transit system as planned. The MTA isn’t giving up on congestion pricing, and neither are we.”
