NEW YORK, February 8, 2010 – Peter A. Marchetto, a preeminent builder with 25 years of construction experience in all industry sectors, has been elected Chairman of the New York Building Congress, succeeding Skanska USA Chairman Stuart E. Graham.
Mr. Marchetto is currently President of Construction Operations for Tishman Construction Corporation – An AECOM Company where he is responsible for increasing Tishman’s market share nationally, as well as providing construction expertise and project oversight. Mr. Marchetto, who joined Tishman in 2009, also serves on the Company’s Management Committee, which sets priorities, establishes policy, and promotes the core values of safety, integrity, quality, and environmental responsibility.
Mr. Marchetto was previously Chief Executive Officer of Bovis Lend Lease Americas, responsible for 19 offices in the United States and three in Latin America. He joined New York-based Bovis Lend Lease in 1979 as one of the first employees of what was then Lehrer McGovern. Prior to his appointment as CEO in 2004, Marchetto was Chief Operating Officer for Bovis Lend Lease Americas. He also served as President of Lehrer McGovern Bovis and head of its Northeast Central region.
“I have long been proud of my association with the Building Congress and the important role it plays as a unique coalition as diverse as the industry it serves,” said Mr. Marchetto. “It will be a challenge to live up to the standard set by Stu Graham, who helped the Building Congress reach new heights in industry service, research, advocacy and influence. As Chairman, I hope to continue and expand these efforts, promoting the building industry as an important economic engine in the City and State and enhancing the organization’s role in enabling owners to efficiently design, engineer and build their projects. In addition, I look forward to continuing Building Congress programs that support minorities, women, small businesses and the disadvantaged in our industry.”
Mr. Graham said, “It has been my privilege to serve the Building Congress and I look forward to working with Pete Marchetto as he ably carries forward with a dynamic agenda. In my two years as Chairman, we have experienced the challenges associated with record construction activity, as well as those of a faltering economy. Through it all, our message has been consistent and clear – New York City’s future depends on its ability to constantly reinvent itself and to plan for continued growth. The Building Congress is truly fortunate to have so many industry leaders dedicated to the organization and these principles.”
“Pete Marchetto and Stu Graham represent the strength, innovation and depth of this industry as well as the vitality of the New York Building Congress, which has been fortunate to have consistently outstanding leadership to help chart the City’s course through good times and bad,” said Building Congress President Richard T. Anderson. “They join a long list of men and women, who exemplify this history of devotion and intelligent service to the industry and New York City.”
The New York Building Congress is a membership coalition of business, labor, association and government organizations promoting the design, construction and real estate industry in New York City.
