New York Building Congress Honors Daniel R. Tishman at 86th Anniversary Leadership Awards Luncheon

NEW YORK, May 15, 2007 – A record crowd of more than 1,200 design, construction and real estate community members joined to honor Tishman Construction Corporation – An AECOM Company Chairman/CEO Daniel R. Tishman, during the New York Building Congress 86th Anniversary Leadership Awards Luncheon, held today at the Hilton New York.

The Luncheon featured greetings by New York City Council Speaker Christine C. Quinn, who told the assembled crowd, “Together, we are taking our City to a place it has never been. This will soon be a City of nine million people,” which, she noted, will require major investments in housing, schools, transportation and other infrastructure. “There is no way we could meet all of these needs without you, and I want to thank you for being up to the challenge.”

The Leadership Award to Mr. Tishman in part was in recognition of his success as a builder who has also charted a course for sustainable design and construction as evidenced by his and his firm’s work on such innovative projects as Four Times Square, 7 World Trade Center, the Freedom Tower and the Bank of America Tower at One Bryant Park. The award also recognizes his pivotal role in solidifying and expanding upon Tishman Construction’s reputation as a go-to team for complex, multi-year, region-shaping projects, including the Javits Convention Center expansion, the Trans-Hudson Express (THE) Tunnel and a new Meadowlands football stadium.

The Leadership Award was presented to Mr. Tishman by the two heads of the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey for which Tishman Construction is building the Freedom Tower. Port Authority Executive Director Anthony E. Shorris said, “Dan’s family literally built this City, including – it’s worth noting – Minoru Yamasaki’s great twin towers at the World Trade Center. That kind of history sets a tremendously high bar, but Dan has risen to the challenge with energy and vision. He has evolved the company and his leadership to keep pace with the changing times.”

Port Authority Chairman Tony Coscia added, “He is at the forefront of creating green buildings in New York City,” including the Freedom Tower, which Tishman Construction is building for the Port Authority. “It is for all of the leadership that Dan has exemplified that I am pleased to present him” with the 86th Anniversary Leadership Award.

In accepting the Leadership Award, Mr. Tishman remarked that he recently had visited seven cities in China and four in the United States over 14 days, adding “There is one constant issue: the environment. Everyone is speaking about how our industry can step up to the plate and do our part to make the world a better and more healthy place to live.”

Regarding New York City, Mr. Tishman said, “Being the world’s leading city is a huge responsibility. It goes beyond green. We can all do a better job of making New York the best place to do business. These days are Camelot for our industry and we should take this opportunity to all work together – to better our industry. The spotlight is always on New York, and we need to get it right.”

Also at the Luncheon, Peter L. DiCapua, Chief Operating Officer of Atco Properties and Management, Inc., was presented with the Sixth Annual George A. Fox Public Service Award for his devotion to a number charitable causes. Cerami & Associates President Victoria Cerami, who co-chaired the Fox Award Selection Committee, said, “The award honors the exceptional legacy of George A. Fox, a man of enormous vision and integrity who inspired our industry. We recognize Peter DiCapua today for his civic and charitable commitment, especially as Director of the Diabetes Research Institute, where he has raised significant funds over many, many years.”

In accepting the award, Mr. DiCapua said, “I am so proud on many levels. First, sharing the stage with Dan Tishman is very special. Receiving an award in George Fox’s name is a particular honor. I am most proud to have been selected by the nominating committee. To be recognized by my colleagues is a great honor to me.”

Building Congress President Richard T. Anderson praised Durst Organization Co-President Douglas Durst for his outstanding work as Chairman of the 86th Anniversary Leadership Awards Luncheon. “Under Douglas’ leadership, the Durst Organization has been a pioneer in resource-conserving construction and building operations. He has brought the same commitment to this luncheon, making it one of the largest and most successful in Building Congress history.”

Former Building Congress Chairman Frank J. Sciame summed up the feeling in the Hilton New York when he commented, “In this booming market, all of us have a special responsibility to point out the many benefits of development in the City of New York. The work we do generates jobs, tax revenues, improves quality of life, and provides countless opportunities for residents and visitors alike. The challenge before us is to see how we together can keep the good times rolling – and everyone in this room will do just that.”

The Executive Co-Chairmen for the luncheon were Edwin L. Christian of International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 14-14B; Anthony J. Guzzi of EMCOR Group, Inc.; Lawrence Petretti of Hunter Roberts Interiors; Frank J. Sciame of Sciame Construction LLC; and Dominick M. Servedio of STV Group and current Chairman of the New York Building Congress.
