Re: Comments of the New York Building Congress on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) Prepared for the Fulton Street Transit Center

June 8, 2004

Dear Mr. Nagaraja:

The New York Building Congress, a coalition of the design, construction and real estate industry in New York City supports the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) of the Fulton Street Transit Center and urges the MTA to move the project forward quickly.

The Transit Center will improve both the efficiency of transportation and the aesthetics in the area. The interconnectivity among multiple subway lines the Center will provide for commuters, residents and visitors alike is sorely needed and long overdue.

The beauty of the design will build on other improvements in Lower Manhattan and contribute to the rebirth and growth of the area so scarred by the events of September 11, 2001. It is exactly the kind of project that demonstrates the best of New York City – innovation, efficiency and inspiration.

Please be assured that, as you move forward in your efforts to improve and rebuild Lower Manhattan, the Building Congress will continue to support you and your colleagues at the MTA. We appreciate your leadership and look forward to working with you in every possible way.

Sincerely,

Richard T. Anderson
