FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: June 21, 2024

“The New York Building Congress has long advocated for necessary reforms that would speed up environmental review processes and allow for faster progress on infrastructure projects that New Yorkers rely on,” said Carlo A. Scissura, Esq., President & CEO of the New York Building Congress. “News that construction on the Brooklyn Queens Expressway may not begin until 2029 demonstrates just how critical it is to make our these processes more efficient. The deteriorating BQE is the definition of an essential priority project, and the clock is ticking on its lifetime. We should have put shovels in the ground on its repair yesterday. The Building Congress calls for closer coordination between all levels of government to find a way to expedite its redesign on behalf of the New Yorkers who rely on it daily. Any time wasted could prove disastrous.”
