The New York Building Congress Transportation & Infrastructure Committee will be holding a special joint meeting with the AIA New York Chapter on Wednesday, October 29 for a program exploring the opportunities for Transit-Oriented Development around the Interborough Express (IBX). The meeting will take place at the Center for Architecture, located at 536 LaGuardia Place, with coffee and networking at 8:30 a.m. and the program beginning promptly at 9:00 a.m.
Based on the recent Building Congress Report, Housing and the Interborough Express: Tackling New York City’s Housing Crisis One Step at a Time, the discussion will focus on the regulatory, zoning, and financial tools needed to unlock opportunities for housing development. In conversation with land use, design, transportation, and policy experts, we will unpack the lessons learned of rezonings near transit projects, such as Penn Access, as well as the massive step forward taken with City of Yes for Housing Opportunity and critical questions on the design of the IBX project related to connectivity.
The program will include an overview from MTA Construction & Development on the IBX project and a presentation by Building Congress President & CEO Carlo Scissura on the IBX report. The remarks will be followed by a panel discussion featuring:
